Ford Drives Taurus into the Ground
October 28th, 2006 by Ian
After being in production for over twenty years, the last Ford Taurus rolled off the
assembly line this past week. Breaking trends with creativity when the Taurus began, the modern Ford Motors managed to finally kill the former #1 best selling car in America. Forbes put it well:
In failing to evolve what was once the best selling car in America, Ford Motor has given this country ten years of unadulterated blandness, polluting highways, streets and back roads with an aesthetic so generic that any self-respecting teenager should instead choose a scooter or a pogo ball as an alternate means of transportation.
But at least Ford is changing right? Afterall they are lowering costs by purchasing parts from China. They have had some success there. But is this cost saving move smart or just another act of panic and desparation? Ford also had to recall over 151,000 cars in China recently. Not to mention, The Ford Motor Company reported a loss of $5.8 billion in the third quarter because of declining sales and its ongoing restructuring effort. For the whole year, the Detroit Free Press says they could lose over $10.5 billion. Buy hey, they sill have the F-150 right? Will this be enough for investors to tolerate the stubornness of The Ford Motor Comany? I doubt it.
